Man shot in Saddle Lake now in stable condition

A 34-year-old male was shot in the upper body at Saddle Lake First Nation early Tuesday morning, according to an RCMP press release.

Both the man and a 31-year-old woman with non-gunshot injuries were transported to hospital in St. Paul before being transferred to Edmonton via STARS and ground ambulance. Both victims are currently in stable condition, after suffering what were believed to be non-life threatening injuries, according to the release.

At 2:30 a.m., RCMP received reports of shots being fired at the residence and arrived to find the injured woman and the man suffering from a single gunshot wound to the upper body.

RCMP have interviewed a number of witnesses and have identified persons of interest. Charges have not been laid and no one is considered a suspect at this time, and there is no determined motive for the shooting as of yet. RCMP are looking into whether this is a gang-related occurrence. The RCMP Forensic Identification Section and Police Dog Services attended to assist with the investigation.
