Lottie Lake residents in dangerous waters

Sep 25, 2012 06:00 am

To the Editor:

For some time now, the County of St. Paul has been hauling water to the Lottie Lake water system. As I understand it, this water is regularly tested at its source, which is St. Paul, and is defined as meeting provincial guidelines. That should make the people of St. Paul feel confident; however, no one has come to test the water that is coming out of my tap at Lottie Lake.

Our water is disgusting! If you fill a jug with water and let it sit, there will be a sediment left in the bottom. The ceiling of our shower is covered in brown spots because when the water evaporates, the dirt is left. If you are dumb enough to make coffee with it, you are left with a scum on the top of the pot. I have been assured that our water does NOT meet Provincial guidelines, yet the system has not been shut down, nor has a boiled water advisory been issued. Unfortunately even if we boil the water, the dirt is still there, even though whatever bacteria, e-coli, or whatever may be dead.

Is the County of St. Paul waiting for someone to die before they do something? I don’t want to be that first person so I hope someone else goes first.
