Single vehicle rollover leaves one dead, three injured
A 29-year-old Elk Point man is dead after his SUV rolled into the ditch at Highway 646 and Range Road 45 at 4 a.m. on Dec. 27.
Elk Point RCMP, fire and EMS units arrived on the scene and located four individuals who had been in the vehicle. The driver had been ejected from the vehicle in the rollover and was immediately transported to St. Paul’s hospital where life-saving measures were provided, but the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Two females and one male adult were transported from the scene of the rollover to Bonnyville’s hospital and were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
RCMP stated in a press release it is believed that alcohol, speed, poor visibility and road conditions were all contributing factors in the collision.
Highway 646 was reduced to a single lane of traffic, pending the completion of a collision investigation by a traffic analyst. The RCMP reminded individuals on the dangers of drinking and driving and to exercise proper winter driving techniques, which include slowing for poor road conditions and increasing your following distance.
