Archery enthusiasts gathered on the weekend for the Archery Club’s Annual Indoor 3D Shoot. In the past, the shoot has been held at the Ag Corral, but this year, archers of all ages met together in the St. Paul Curling Rink.

“Having a new facility to host the shoot in is so great,” said Marina Champagne, who helped organize and run the competition. “We also usually do this in February instead of late April, so that's different, too. We've been doing this event for a long time, and things have changed this year. That's always a bit concerning, but also exciting.”

The shoot was a fundraiser that helped the Archery Club raise money to cover operating costs and also to provide cash prizes for this year's winners.

“This year it is more important than ever because, with the new facility, we have higher operating costs. Although our numbers were down from last year due to the date change, our 3D Shoot was still a success. We had a lot of positive feedback from participants on our location.”

But regardless of a new location and a date later in the year than usual, plenty of archers lined the curling rink to take down stuffed animals, insects, and even a few unlucky dinosaurs.

Three different levels of targets were set up for youth, cadets, and adults. Younger shooters competed first, and Champagne said that it’s always encouraging when plenty of youth show up each year.

“There’s a big hunting community up here, and archery makes up a big part of that. It’s really great to see parents coming out with their kids and teaching them how to shoot. Having all ages out here really makes it great.”

One of the largest benefits of hosting the 3D Shoot at the Curling Rink was the size of the venue, which allowed organizers to set up two complete courses, which allowed more participants to shoot in a shorter period of time.

“We had a huge number of sponsors this year, and we would like to thank each and every one of them,” said Champagne. “They have all been vital in making our Annual 3D Indoor Shoot a success.”

St. Paul will be hosting the 2018 Indoor Target Provincials next year, and more information regarding that tournament will be available in the future.
