Aug. 5, 2016, marked the two-year anniversary of the sudden passing of Dallas Steinhauer. Two years ago, Dallas was involved in a fatal car accident on his way to the Vilna Golf Course.

Dallas was known as a talented golfer who was dedicated to the game, and loved by all of his friends and family. He loved the sport of golf, which was the main inspiration for his parents to start the Dallas Steinhauer Memorial Golf Tournament.

It was held for the first time last year and was a huge success, drawing about 120 golfers to the Vilna Golf Course for 18 holes of golf.

This year’s tournament was no different, as 120 golfers once again came out to Vilna to celebrate Dallas’ life on Saturday. Golfers competed in teams, with all of the money made from entry fees paid back to the winning teams.

Other golfers chose to play non-competitively, and enjoy a carefree day of golfing, despite the dreary weather the area experienced.

Since the competitive golfers were divided into teams, the tournament was organized into flights rather than age or gender categories.

Billy Steinhauer, Dallas’ dad, was the head organizer of the tournament, which he says is a great way to remember his son. “He had a passion for golf, and playing the game he loved so much with his circle of friends and family is how we’ll honor him for the next two years.”

Dallas’ family is now considering starting a Dallas Steinhauer Golf Foundation after the final tournament is held in 2018, to help young people learn the game of golf.

Organizers were very thankful to all the support shown toward the tournament.

Denise Moosewah, Dallas’ mother, said that it was once again an emotional experience for the family.

“This event is part of our healing journey. We miss Dallas everyday and love him always,” she said.
