Calgary's Junio wins bronze in 500 metres at long-track speedskating World Cup

HEERENVEEN, Netherlands - Calgary's Gilmore Junio has another World Cup medal in his pocket after a bronze medal showing in a 500-metre event on Saturday at the World Cup final in Heerenveen, Netherlands.
Ronald Mulder of the Netherlands won the race in 34.81 seconds followed by countryman Jan Smeekens in 34.97 and Junio in 35.00.
Junio won a silver medal in a World Cup 500 metres in Inzell, Germany on March 8 and now has four World Cup medals since claiming his first — a silver — in Nagan, Japan in December, 2012.
William Dutton of Humboldt, Sask., finished 16th and Edmonton's Jamie Gregg was 17th in the men's 500.
Other Canadian results from Saturday saw Denny Morrison of Fort St. John, B.C., finish ninth in the 1500 metres and Calgary's Kaylin Irvine place 14th in the women's 500-metre event.
