World long drive champion Jamie Sadlowski was crowned king of the course on Sunday, as he won the men’s category at the St. Paul Golf Course’s club championship for the third consecutive time.

The St. Paul Golf Course hosted its annual club championship that gave the area’s avid golfers and opportunity to spend two days out on the course. Two-time world long drive champion turned pro-golfer Jamie Sadlowski was in town and participated in the event with some of the people he grew up playing golf alongside.

Several categories were made up of about 40 golfers who took to the course. The weather cooperated throughout the weekend, giving the golfers prime conditions to put their best foot forward.

The Club Championship has been a tradition at the golf course since 1958, with categories for men, women, juniors, senior men and senior women. Some divisions were divided into two pools to spread out golfers and make the field more competitive.

Golf course operator Vince Cianfagna said that the event produced some great scores and some career rounds for a few golfers.

“The event went well and the course conditions were fabulous. We thought the turnout was a little low, just over 40 golfers, especially since we’ve increased the number of members to over 270 this year. We understand that not all members play competitive golf and that many were away this weekend getting their final summer holidays.”

The praise for the conditions of the greens and fairways at the course continued according to Cianfagna.

“The overall support from the community, the members and public in general for all aspects of the facility here at St. Paul Golf Course and the Tin Cup Restaurant has been great and we hope that we’ve provided them with the type of service that will keep them coming back.”

The overall men’s champion claiming his sixth title and third consecutive was Sadlowski, with stellar scores of 68 on Saturday and 67 on Sunday. Second place went to Paul Royer (79-84) and third to Donovan Foulston (86-86).

The men’s net champion was Paul Royer with a total of 147.

The ladies champion was Patti Krekoski with a score of 78. This was Patti's 12th title as a member of St. Paul Golf Course. Second and third went to Jody Lee (97) and Marlene deMoissac (107), respectively.

The ladies’ net champion was Jody Lee with a score of 71. The ladies division played only one round, by choice, on Sunday.

Gerald Looy secured the senior champion title with a great round of 74 on Sunday to go with his 85 from Saturday (159). Second went to Henri deMoissac (80-83) who just edged out Dennis Moosewah (81-83).

The senior men’s net champion was Dale Drummond with a total of 143.

The junior title was won by Brandon Fedoruk with scores of 92-79. In second place was Logan Gratton (103-81), and third went to Reid Fedoruk (98-98).

The junior net champion was Logan Gratton with a total of 132.

The men’s B Division was hotly contested with John Yakimec (92-96) edging Andre St. Arnault (100-88) by retrogression score. Third went to Claude Dion (93-97).

The men’s B division net champion was Andre St. Arnault with a 150 total.

The senior men’s B division was won by Ernie Lilje (91-93) with Dennis Giggs (89-98) coming in second, and Dan Bojarski (92-109) in third.

The senior men’s B division net champion was Dennis Giggs with 147 total.

Nearly 60 years of club championships have spawned many champions over the years. The event gives golfers a great opportunity to play competitively against golfers they see on the course on a regular basis.

Men’s champion Jamie Sadlowski says the event was a great opportunity to catch up and see many people he hasn’t talked with in years.

“I was supposed to be in Knoxville this week, but I came home and I saw that the club championships were this weekend and I had to come play. I played in this tournament as a kid. I wanted to play some competitive golf with some people I’ve played with almost all of my life. Home will always be home. It’s great to come home and visit with all of these people I know so well.”

This weekend is the golf course’s Mixed Couple Fundraiser, sponsored by Canalta Hotels. The fundraiser is to help raise money for a new practice facility (driving range) at the St. Paul Golf Course.

Space is limited to the first 60 couples registered, so call the Pro-shop at (780) 645-4077 to sign up as the list is more than halfway full.
