One of the largest entertainment events to come to St. Paul in a long time is now within days of taking place, but there is more taking place than just the Saturday Brett Kissel Hometown concert.

Leading up to the event, Kissel, who is originally from the Flat Lake area and graduated from high school in St. Paul, will be visiting local schools on Wednesday and Thursday.

Superintendent Glen Brodziak noted at last week’s regular St. Paul Education Regional Division board meeting that the visits will act as a good way to show support for the arts and acknowledge the success of a local resident.

According to organizers of the production team, “the event is a go, rain or shine,” on Saturday. Performances will start at 5:30 p.m., with the venue itself opening at 4:30 p.m.

Tickets for the event sold out quickly, but admission for children under five is free. Limited parking for the event will be available at the West End Zarowny Motors facility, starting at 2 p.m. A shuttle service for disabled patrons will be available via park and ride from the Iron Horse campground on the east end of town starting at 4 p.m.

In early April, Kissel announced the homecoming concert, which will also feature Canadian country music star Charlie Major. Local talent will also be on display with Route 66, Olivia Rose and Cassidy Zahar each taking turns on the stage.

A website with lists of “things you need to know” and “Go’s & No-Go’s” is set up at www.brettkisselhometown.com.
