Nominations close for town, county, school board

Several incumbents- and newcomers put their names forward to run for office as nomination day drew to a close, on Sept. 18. The upcoming municipal election will take place on Oct. 16 for both the Town and County of St. Paul. St.

Several incumbents- and newcomers put their names forward to run for office as nomination day drew to a close, on Sept. 18.

The upcoming municipal election will take place on Oct. 16 for both the Town and County of St. Paul. St. Paul Education Regional Division will also hold its board election alongside the municipal election.

Nearly every seat within the County of St. Paul is up for contention, with a number of candidates putting their names forward for public office.

Along with incumbent Steve Upham putting his name forward again as reeve, past Division 1 councillor Glen Ockerman has put his name forward for the position, along with long-time public works superintendent, Leo deMoissac, who had retired late last year.

In Division 1, Dean Smith and Darrell Younghans submitted nomination papers, Monday morning.

In Division 2, there will be three names likely on the ballot: Myra Bochon, Ron Heraid, and Kevin Wirsta. Past councillor Dwight Dach will not be seeking re-election.

In Division 3, incumbent Cliff Martin has put his name forward, along with Ray Suvak.

In Division 4, incumbent Maxine Fodness will once again run for office, along with James McGonigal.

In Division 5, Dale Hedrick, Barry Sallstrom, and Ric Webster have put their names forward. Long-time serving councillor Frank Sloan is not seeking re-election.

Division 6 was the only uncontested division, where incumbent Laurent Amyotte was in by acclamation.

For the Town of St. Paul, incumbent mayor Glenn Andersen will be seeking re-election. Maureen Miller has also put her name forward for the position.

For town councillor positions, there were 14 names included in the list that was released on Monday. There are six positions available for town council. All six past town councillors’ names were included on the nomination list, including: Judy Bogdan, Edna Gervais, Ken Kwiatkowski, Norm Noel, Don Padlesky, and Dwight Wiebe.

Former town councillors Ron Boisvert and Gary Ward have also put their names forward.

Also included on the list is: Lise Beliveau, Tyson deMoissac, Brad Eamon, David Inscho, Nathan Taylor, and Kim Werenka have also put their names forward for the upcoming election.

St. Paul Education Regional Division will also be holding its board election on Oct. 16.

Ward A will see incumbent Lorne Young in by acclamation; along with Ward B seeing incumbent Deb Pederson also in by acclamation. Ward F will see past board chair Heather Starosielski in by acclamation as well.

In the Two Hills area, Ward C, incumbent Ruven Rajoo has put his name forward again, and Lorrett Tatarin will also be on the ballot.

In Ward D, incumbent Rhonda Lafrance will seek re-election, with Sylvie Smyl also submitting papers on nomination day.

The Glen Avon Ward will also be up for contention, with incumbent Christopher Cook’s name on the ballot, along with Justin Anderson.

Ward E, which was previously held by long-time serving trustee Rhea Looy, was vacant as of Monday at noon, when nominations closed. However, Dwight Wiebe submitted his name as a candidate following nomination day, and as no other people put their name forward, was acclaimed as the candidate.
