Stop tax attack on small businesses

To the Editor,

The latest move by the Liberal government to gain income from business is cause for great concern. It’s a sign that those in government are out of step with the ideals and fundamental principals that made this a great nation.

Basically, the nation is successful because of hard working people from all walks of life. Many of the greatest leaders were also business people that led because of their hardworking nature and entrepreneurial skills. These unique skills allowed the growth of their business, to employ more and more people, and over time and as the companies grew, so did the economy.

In other words, skilled and talented people influence and build the economy and make a country prosper.

What we see happening is a disconnection or lack of education between the politicians and the reality of how the world works. Once society reaches the point whereby they don’t know how wealth is created, we have a problem. I think that is what we are seeing.

The bottom line is that there has to be some tangible rewards to those people who make extraordinary efforts to succeed, and in many cases numerous risks to achieve the extraordinary success that they may enjoy. We must not forget that not all people inherently have these unique skills and determination.

This legislation attempts to achieve the most onerous damage to our free enterprise system that is to take away incentives or rewards for those who in many cases work the hardest and risk the most to succeed.

It is a slippery slope that this government is putting us on. Do we have the resolve to defeat this legislation? If we fail to defeat this action, we risk becoming an economy where people really believe that they can get something for nothing.

This would not be the country that has achieved so much by following the capitalist principals that have guided the country to on of the most desirable counties in the world we live in.
