The need for speed satisfied at Spedden motocross

Motocross has always been a main choice those who have a need for speed and a passion for off-road driving. The rush of riding two-wheeled vehicles over bumpy and hilly terrain is one of the reasons why the sport has such a cult following.

Motocross has always been a main choice those who have a need for speed and a passion for off-road driving. The rush of riding two-wheeled vehicles over bumpy and hilly terrain is one of the reasons why the sport has such a cult following.

The B3 motocross park near Spedden hosted its first summer event this past weekend, with about 50 riders came out to enjoy the track that is maintained and built by Corey Goodon.

The event featured races from classes that included: 50cc’s, 65cc’s, 85cc’s and the adult classes where some very experienced and extreme riders took to the track and pushed their machines to the limits. Goodon’s sons Brooks, Brennan, Brett and their cousin Dylan Zapisocki all take part in the races.

Brennan is racing on a bike provided to him by Extreme Honda in Edmonton, as he races competitively across Alberta. This coming weekend he will be racing near Calgary against racers from across the province.

The Goodon boys have all been riding dirt bikes since the age of three, much like many hockey players are on skates and ice as soon as they learn how to walk.

Brett Goodon races in the 65cc class on a Honda 110cc bike, he says that he likes to do well, but the main reason he does it is that, “I always want to have fun, and this is really fun.”

Brett hopes to keep racing for a long time, well into his adult years, like many of the older riders that also took part in the weekend event.

Goodon says there are a number of local supporters that are a huge help in supporting the park and ensuring the kids can keep riding. Fountain Tire in St. Paul sponsors Brooks Goodon, as well as the Spedden Northern Lights Truck Stop Fas Gas. Fountain Tire helps out by giving the youngsters a discount on the tires for their racing bikes, as the boys will go through five or six sets of tires per season.

“It’s an expensive sport to put your kids in, so the support they give us is really appreciated,” says Goodon.

Goodon hosts a handful of events at the location each summer, as well as a few events during the winter time, one being the snowmobile races that were held this past winter on Cache Lake, only a few kilometers from Goodon’s house and the motocross track.
