Town of St. Paul council has entered into an agreement with a new CAO to lead the municipality, hiring former County of St. Paul CAO Kim Heyman to fill the position, according to Mayor Maureen Miller.

Heyman was employed with the County of St. Paul for a number of years, until she resigned in 2008. After leaving the county, she went on to work with the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties (AAMDC).

Council was expected to ratify its decision at last night’s regular town council meeting.

According to the draft minutes from a special meeting held on Nov. 3, council passed a motion agreeing to pay past Town of St. Paul CAO Holly Habiak a severance of $64,308.

The number was based on Habiak’s employment contract with the Town of St. Paul, and expenses related to her employment with the Town, in accordance with legal advice.

Miller noted that she had no further comment on the matter and the number wasn’t negotiable, and was decided upon as per Habiak’s contract.

Habiak’s employment with the town was terminated on Nov. 3, “without cause, for a change in leadership,” read the draft minutes from the special meeting.
