On Tuesday, Sept. 22, at about 8 p.m., St. Paul RCMP officers responded to a complaint of horses shot in the County of St. Paul, between Highway 29 and Lafond. Investigation by St. Paul RCMP and Edmonton General Investigation Section revealed that two privately owned horses had been fatally shot.

Two suspects, both of the County of St. Paul, were identified, subsequently arrested and charged as a result of this investigation. 34-year-old Terrance McGonigle and 54-year-old Michael Leroux, are charged with criminal offences including Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public Peace, Careless Use of a Firearm and two counts of Wilfully Killing Cattle.

An additional charge of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm was laid against Leroux.

Both men are scheduled to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on October 1, 2015.

RCMP Sgt. Josee Valiquette declined to corroborate reports that there was a rider or riders on the horses at the time of the shooting, but said this matter remains under investigation.

After receiving a report of a vehicle theft in St. Paul, RCMP members and the local dog unit tracked two youths down with one male youth charged with motor vehicle theft.

On Wednesday, Sept. 9, at about 12:30 a.m., the ST. Paul RCMP received a call from a St. Paul resident whose SUV had just been stolen, according to a media release sent last week.

Police searched for and located the vehicle in a rural area near Range Road 84 and Township 584. The vehicle was found rolled onto its side up against a fence, with no one inside.

The St. Paul RCMP Police service dog unit, along with other members, tracked the suspects for over an hour through fields and thick brush, eventually locating and arresting a male and female youth trying to hide in the tall grass.

The male, who cannot be named due to his age, was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, and four counts of breaching a court order. The youth was denied bail and remanded into custody until subsequent youth court appearances.
