High School Rodeo in St. Paul sees young cowboys and cowgirls from throughout the province

The three-day event, hosted by the St. Paul Ag Society, saw about 300 contestants compete during the event.

ST. PAUL – The St. Paul Ag Corral once again became a battleground for young cowboys and cowgirls during the 26th Annual High School Rodeo held over the weekend from April 12 to 14.

Andre Chamberland, president of the St. Paul Ag Society, says the event went well and did what it was supposed to do and that is for young competitors to develop and grow, and the "kids had fun," he says. "It was really good."

Junior High Results

In Chute Dogging, Wyatt Elder from Stettler won with 12.9 seconds, while Luke Hronek from Irskine claimed the first spot in the Goat Tying (Boys) event with a time of 11.7 seconds. 

Lena Kronschnoble from Thorsby secured the first position in the Barrel Racing event with a time of 13.041 seconds. Kronschnoble also won the Team Roping event with Luke Hronek from Irskine. They timed 15.7 seconds.

Koaltyn Ogilvie from Mountainview County secured the first position in the Bareback Riding event with 62 points.

Hadley Schiffner from Wheatland County won the first position in Breakaway Roping (Girls) with a time of 3.0 seconds. She also narrowly claimed first place in the Goat Tying (Girls) event with 9.2 seconds, a 0.1 difference from Grace Havens, who claimed second place with 9.3 seconds.

Ridge Butterfield from Stettler won the first position in Breakaway Roping (Boys) with a time of 3.7 seconds. 

Jax Torkelson from Warburg and Elli Havens from Madden won Ribbon Roping with a time of 8.9 seconds.

Torkelson also won the Bull Riding event with 75 points, while Elli Havens won Pole Bending event with 20.738 seconds.

Torkelson was declared the Boys Hi Point Champion after securing the first position in both the Junior Bulls and Ribbon Roping event (with Havens), and fourth position in the Goat Tying (Boys) event.

And Elli Havens was declared the Girls Hi Point Champion, after securing first position in the Ribbon Roping event (with Torkelson), first position in Pole Bending, and third in Team Roping.

Senior high results 

As for the senior rodeo winners, involving students from Grades 9 to 12, Jestin Jaclin from Ponoka took first place in Bull Riding with 141 points on two head. 

In pole bending, Janae McDougall led the pack with 41.209 seconds on two runs, while Quaide Skjonsberg from Bluffton won the Bareback Riding category with 144 points on two head. 

Clay Greenslade from Rocky View County took first place in Saddle Bronc Riding with 148 points on two head, and Blake Zieffle from Consort won the Steer Wrestling event with 19.8 seconds on two runs.

In Tie Down Roping, Chase Butterfield from Stettler secured first place with 19.3 seconds on two runs, while Hailey Duncan from Athabasca won Breakaway Roping with 6.1 seconds on two runs.

Carter Gillard and Corbin Gillar from Lacombe won Team Roping with 19.4 seconds on two runs.

Aubrey Ross from Botha won the Goat Tying event with 16.5 seconds on two runs, and she also won the Barrel Racing with 25.443 seconds on two runs. She also placed second in Pole Bending. Ross is this year's Ladies Hi Point Champion 

The Men’s Hi Point Champion title went to Blake Zieffle from Consort, who placed first in Steer Wrestling and second in Tie Down Roping. Zieffle was also the Men's Hi Point Champion last year.

Hadley Schiffner from Wheatland County, who competed in the Junior High category, won the Leif Pederson Spirit Award.
