On May 1, St. Paul RCMP responded to a report of human remains located in Saddle Lake.  
St. Paul RCMP with assistance of the Forensic Identification Section (FIS) and RCMP Major Crimes Unit – North (MCU) attended the scene and conducted an examination. The scene was later released, and an autopsy was scheduled.
An autopsy was conducted at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton on May 3. The human remains were identified as Christine Cardinal's, a 22-year-old female, that was reported missing and last seen during the early morning hours of Oct. 13, 2016, north of the Bison Auto gas station in Saddle Lake.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner have not yet determined the exact cause of death but foul play is not suspected at this time.
