The St. Paul Jr. B Canadiens took home two points after hosting to home games this weekend at the Clancy Richard Arena.

Friday night's game against the lower-ranked Vermilion Tigers was a back and forth battle, with the Canadiens working to catch-up to the Tigers throughout. In the end, the Canadiens were outplayed and the Tigers took the 4-3 win.

"Looking back on it, (at first) I wasn’t sure about the effort, but I think the effort was fine," said coach Joe Young. He noted that Vermilion's goalie played well on Friday, and the Canadiens did get their fair share of shots on net, but some things simply didn't execute well.

The Tigers opened up the scoring in the first period, with the Canadiens responding with a goal by Zach Bendall.

The second period was similar, with Vermilion scoring, then St. Paul tying things up again with second a goal by Bendall. Vermilion would take the lead again before the end of the second.

St. Paul once again tied things up in the third period with a power play goal from Alex Astasiewicz. But with about five minutes left on the clock, Vermilion's Jesse Reeds would net the game winner, and a disappointed Canadiens' team would head to the locker room.

"Friday’s game we simply got outworked and didn’t capitalize on our chances," said Canadiens' captain Dyson Roy.

Goalie Seth Mckay made 33 saves on 37 shots for the Canadiens.

Saturday

The Canadiens took to the ice again on Saturday night at the Clancy Richard Arena, this time taking on one of the NEAJBHL's top three teams, the Killam Wheat Kings.

"It was a typical St. Paul-Killam game, it was fast, it was physical, a little bit nasty out there. Just a fun game to be a part of," said Young. He added that the Canadiens always know what they're in for when they meet up against the Wheat Kings.

The St. Paul Canadiens' Brayden Goulet would score first on the power play in the first period, and later followed it up with the second goal of the game in the second period. But Killam wasn't giving up, and the team managed to tie things up with two goals in the third period, pushing the game to over time.

"The guys didn't quit, and we had an exciting over time period," said Young.

Roy managed to find the net after about four minutes of play in over time. A pass from goalie Brenden Williams to Astasiewicz, who then sent a long pass to Roy, sent the captain on a breakaway.

"Saturday we did a better job of playing physical and limiting (Killam's) time and space. Willy also played great between the pipes," said Roy, talking about the team's goalie. Williams had 47 saves on 49 shots on Saturday night.

Young agreed that Williams had another good night in net.

“He gives the guys a lot of confidence," said Young, adding, he feels the team played has played extremely well when Williams has been in net.

The Canadiens will play at home again this week, taking on the Wainwright Bisons on Nov. 16 at the Clancy Richard Arena. The game is set for 8 p.m. St. Paul will then hit the road for a rematch against the Tigers, in Vermilion on Saturday night.
