RCMP lay charges after stolen vehicle spotted travelling 177km/hour

St. Paul RCMP have laid charges against an 18-year-old following a Sept. 10 incident involving a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. At about 1:30 a.m., St. Paul RCMP members were conducting traffic enforcement in the County of St.

St. Paul RCMP have laid charges against an 18-year-old following a Sept. 10 incident involving a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.

At about 1:30 a.m., St. Paul RCMP members were conducting traffic enforcement in the County of St. Paul on Highway 29 near Range Road 101 when a vehicle travelling 177 km/hr drove by, according to an RCMP media release.

"Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the vehicle did not stop when emergency lights were activated. A pursuit was not initiated due to safety concerns. A short time later the vehicle with four occupants was located near Range Road 112 and all occupants were arrested," reads the release.

An investigation revealed the vehicle was stolen from Edmonton and the license plate was stolen from Cold Lake. A search of the vehicle and suspects was conducted and drugs and a weapon were located.

Taylor Omeasoo (18) of Saddle Lake, along with three youths (ages 13, 15 and 17), who cannot be named as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act, were charged.

Omeasoo was charged with several Criminal Code offences some of which include: possession of stolen property (X2) and failure to comply recognizance (X3). He was remanded into custody was expected to appear in court on Sept. 13.

The youths were charged separately with a variety Criminal Code offences, including possession of stolen property; possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; resisting a peace officer; failure to stop for peace officer; failing to comply; dangerous operation of a motor vehicle; and possession of methamphetamine.

They were released after judicial hearings with conditions and will be appearing in St. Paul Provincial Court on Sept. 13 and 27. As the matter is now before the court, no further information will be released.
