A man has been arrested following a 10 km trek in the Floating Stone area, using the RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS).
On Dec. 2, shortly before 8 p.m. St. Paul RCMP received a complaint of a theft occurring at a seasonal property near Floating Stone Lake. RCMP attended and arrested a male using RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS).
"RCMP were contacted by a complainant advising that they were observing someone breaking into their seasonal property through their surveillance system. A neighbour attended the property on their behalf and had a confrontation with the male suspect who then fled on foot," reads an RCMP media release. "St. Paul RCMP and PDS attended the scene and began to track the suspect."
Further investigation of the male found he was suspected for other crimes in the Floating Stone Lake area as well as Lac La Biche.
"Other property was also seized at the scene and believed to be stolen," reads the release.
The investigation is ongoing to determine ownership of the property.
Jade John Mountain, 23, of Lac La Biche, was charged with a number of offences, including break and enter, mischief, posession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, theft over $5,000, dangerous driving, failing to remain at the scene of a collision, and uttering threats.
Mountain was also wanted on a number of outstanding criminal warrants. He was brought before a justice of the peace and held in custody.
His next appearance on St. Paul matters is Dec. 5 in St. Paul Provincial Court.
A separate appearance on Lac La Biche matters is scheduled for Dec. 9, in Lac La Biche Provincial Court.
"Through the watchful eye of a community member and the assistance of our support units we were able to track down a suspect believed responsible for a number of crimes in the area," said St. Paul RCMP Sgt. David Graham.
