Basketball zones take place across northeast Alberta

Just one area high school basketball team will be heading to provincials this year - the Glendon School girls' team.

LAKELAND - High school basketball teams from across the Northeast Alberta Schools' Athletic Association (NEASAA) region gathered at various schools on March 8 and 9 to take part in this year's Zone championships.

Hosting 1A boys' was Glendon School. When the competition wrapped up, E.H. Walter School from Paradise Valley won the top spot and is now heading to ASAA provincials.

The 1A girls' tournament was held in Vegreville with Glendon School winning and earning themselves a spot at provincials, which are set to begin on Thursday in Airdrie.

The 2A boys' zones tournament was held in Bonnyville, with Lamont coming out on top and earning a spot at provincials. The 2A girls' games were held in Lamont and it was the team from Lamont that will head to provincials.

Both 3A boys' and girls' tournaments were held in Fort McMurray. On the girls' side, Holy Rosary from Lloydminster will play at provincials, and Holy Trinity from Fort McMurray will play on the boys' side.
